<h1 style="color: rgba(251, 237, 237, 0.85);">White Rabbit (Blurred Alice) </h1><span style="color: rgba(251, 237, 237, 0.85);"><br />
<br /><br />For a shoot inspired by Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, I wanted to recreate the film's conceptual ideas of time, the loss of innocence, and an escape from reality. In this image, Alice is running after the White Rabbit. Using a slow shutter speed with a tripod, I had my subject run around a tree in Griffith Park’s Bronson Canyon. I knew this location would be the perfect place for the shoot, with its lush greenery and mature trees. Her blurred and receding form creates a sense of loss, mystery, and fading, leaving the viewer unsettled about her fate. </span><br />

Alice is an inquisitive protagonist, always wondering and following her impulses. Towards the beginning of the story, Alice famously falls down the rabbit hole. I used this image of Alice peering into a broken tree stump to depict the curiosity of young individuals as they become more independent, in the quest to understand and interpret the world on their own terms.</span><br />

<span style="color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.85);">During my Alice series, I wanted to recreate an image from Sir John Tenniel’s 1871 illustration of Alice encountering the famously stupid twins. Using a friend who looks awfully like me, I metered the camera, set the composition, and asked my sister to press the shutter button. I posed and dressed each subject with the drawing as inspiration.</span>

<br />By honing my skills in conceptual and technical photography, I use the power of shadows to an extreme. Toying with the leading lines, a contrast of shadow and light creates a whirlpool around my subject, inevitably luring the viewer to visit each part of the image.</span>

<br />By using a projected image to overlay abstract visuals onto my subject (Taj), I created an interplay between the images and his body that symbolized the conflict between self-expression and societal expectation. The black-and-white film heightened the drama in the lighting while introducing an extra subject—a hand grabbing, essentially pulling my main into conformity while they're lost and turned upside down. </span><br />
